What are your first thoughts when you hear the words ‘peace’ or ‘pleasure’? For some, the words may be associated with each other even possibly used interchangeably, but in reality, there is a very distinct difference as observed by Jay Shetty.
University Hospitals Birmingham and Nottinghamshire Sherwood Forrest Hospital’s Trusts are the first two NHS trusts in the country to offer an around the clock Covid-19 vaccination programme. The programme started on Wednesday, with vaccinations being offered between 18:00 and 08:00 each day. This is in addition to the standard operating times of other vaccination centres which currently see patients between 8am and 8pm.
Government statistics show that more than four million people have now received their first vaccination jabs. In previous weeks the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, voiced his intention to extend vaccination hours, once the supply of vaccines allowed it, to further increase the rate of the mass-vaccination programme.
Those in high priority groups as well as health and social care staff are at the top of the list to be offered the vaccine.
A spokesperson for University Hospital’s Birmingham NHS Trust told the BBC in a recent interview; ‘From tonight [Wednesday], we will be opening up a number of vaccination appointment slots specifically for our night staff between 6pm and 8am.’
‘We are looking at further options to provide all health and social care staff across Birmingham and Solihull the opportunity to be vaccinated at a time that suits them. These will be rolled out site by site at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals into the weekend’.
The Covid-19 vaccination programme is now in full swing across England, with aims to have vaccinated those identified within the first four tiers of priority by 15 February 2021. This includes residents and their carers within care home settings, those 80 years old and above along with frontline health and social care workers, those aged over 70 years of age; and those identified as clinically extremely vulnerable.
The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock has outlined his pledge for every adult in the UK having been offered an opportunity to receive their vaccination by the autumn.
