As lockdown continues, and we face another few months of life without access to our traditional gym settings, I have been inundated with questions regarding training strategies that can be implemented at home.
According to a recent survey by Lloyds Bank, nearly half (49%) of small businesses have reported problems with their staff’s mental health during the last year.
SMEs with staff numbers between two and nine reported that both mounting pressures of responsibility (58%) and overwork (57%) were some of the main reasons for becoming unwell. More than half (55%) of those surveyed stated poor work-life balance as a further cause.
In contrast, 73% of bigger firms employing more than 35 members of staff and over a quarter (27%) of sole traders reported problems.
The survey revealed that those between the ages of 35 and 44 were most likely (30%) to be at risk of becoming unwell compared to those aged over 55 being least likely (15%). Geographically, those businesses based in London were at particular risk of difficulties (60%) compared to those based in the north of England (44%).
Gareth Oakley, managing director of business banking at Lloyds Bank, said, “The wellbeing and health of employees should always be a priority, but never more so than now when we are dealing with the impact of the pandemic.”
“The months ahead may be a testing time for some British businesses, so it’s vital that employers continue to focus both on their own wellbeing and that of their employees.”
