Plant-Based Health Online (PBHO) is the first Care Quality Commission registered online medical service to have launched in the UK.
Created by two UK doctors, Dr Laura Freeman and Dr Shireen Kassam, the platform will bring and evidenced-based and holistic approach to healthcare. Its aim is focus on reducing underlying health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease though lifestyle medicine, which can help to prevent against these chronic conditions. The approach includes advising on diet including the knowledge and benefits of a plant-based diet as well as physical activity, restorative sleep and reducing stress along with helping to initiate and maintain social connections.
The service is due to work alongside the NHS and other private providers to offer a unified approach for patients accessing the service.
In a recent statement to HealthHubble, Dr Freeman, co-founder of PBHO who is a dual-licensed Certified Lifestyle Medicine Doctor and General Practitioner said; ‘With a focus on evidenced-based dietary and lifestyle advice, we can promote improved physical and emotional health – whether a patient is a plant-based eater or otherwise. Not only will this create a convenient and easily accessible service to boost patient wellbeing, but it will also help us play our part in reducing chronic disease in the UK’.
Dr Shireen Kassam, founder of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK and also a Consultant Haematologist advised; ‘This service is not just for vegans. It’s a service for everyone who wants to improve their personal health, the health of their family members and of course the health of the planet. PBHO staff will meet patients wherever they may be on their journey to a healthier lifestyle”.
