What are your first thoughts when you hear the words ‘peace’ or ‘pleasure’? For some, the words may be associated with each other even possibly used interchangeably, but in reality, there is a very distinct difference as observed by Jay Shetty.
A recent survey carried out by Lime Insurance has found that over half of UK workers feel pressurised to hide mental health problems from their colleagues, despite feeling unable to cope at work.
Of the 2,000 respondents surveyed, 51% said that they felt under pressure to put on a brave front to their team members, with just over a quarter (26%) stating they didn’t feel that they were coping at work. A staggering 34% stated they felt the same way about navigating every day life.
Anxieties connected with the return to work after lockdown restrictions were lifted were also captured in the results, with a quarter surveyed feeling apprehensive about their return to the workplace.
The survey also revealed employees need for employers to do more in supporting mental health with 81% of respondents highlighting this need. The expectation of employers was further outlined with 42% of respondents expecting their employer to do more, with 40% admitting they would look for alternative employment if their employer did not do so.
Those aged between 16-24 years were found to feel less resilient following the pandemic, with 49% of men and 34% of women indicating concerns.
Shaun Williams, chief executive and founder of Lime Global, said, “The past 18 months has had a huge impact on people’s lives, including on their mental health and resilience. The long-term repercussions of the pandemic are likely to be felt for years to come, and it’s important we act now to be aware of and prioritise both our own mental health and that of those around us.”
